Wine Culture - Castello PoggiarelloDiscover the pure and elegant wines of Poggiarello

Fattoria Poggiarello's name dates back to the 11th century.
The Castle is nestled in the Montagnola foothills, just west of Siena in central Tuscan. The 12 hectares of terrain and wooded area have recently been brought back to life as a small organic farm:
8 hectares of vineyards, 2 hectares of olive groves and 2 hectares of woods.

The Vineyard's red soil is mineral rich of iron and calcium carbonate (a mixture of sand, silt and clay).  The quality and prestigious IGT wines from this incredible terrain offer an excellent expression of aromas and flavours. The wine cellar is located within the foundation the old medieval castle. Ever since Fattoria Poggiarello has harvested its first grapes and made its first vintage wines, Poggiarello's terroir has displayed incredible persistence and complexity.

Harvest usually takes place at the end of September or the beginning of October.  The soil remains cool and therefore ripening is slow and  the grape harvest occurs under the gentle autumnal sun.

The vineyard has a concentrated number of vines that are trimmed for a low and yet high quality yield per vine.  The grapes are hand picked and placed delicately into small baskets to ensure their integrity. The 'must' is fermented naturally in small lots and aged gently in small oak barrels where the oak helps express Poggiarello's 'terrior'.

To complete the process, Poggiarello's wines are then bottled without fining or filtering. Each of Poggiarello's wines reveal an elegance and complexity that will delight your senses. The Poggiarello wines combine the elegance of Bordeaux varietals with the warmth of Tuscany, with balance and minerality that sets them apart from typical Super Tuscans.

Fattoria Castello Poggiarello is to commit to organic and sustainable winegrowing. Our processes are regulated by the EEC law (Reg. n. 834/07) and independently certified every year by Bioagricert Srl (IT BIO 007 096904) to ensure that no artificial fertilizers and conventional pesticides are used on our vineyards.
